Innovative 3D tabletop game recognized in ‘STEAM Toy of the Year’ category
Temecula, CA — The Toy Association announced finalists for the 2022 Toy of the Year (TOTY) Award this week, selecting Gridopolis in the STEAM category. Known as the “Oscars” of the toy industry, the TOTY Awards program recognizes the top playthings on the market and is a preview of the most popular toys and games for the upcoming holiday season ─ and years to follow.
Products in TOTY’s STEAM category recognize toys and games that “encourage kids to develop skills (foundational or curricular) in the core disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.”
“We’re proud that Gridopolis is receiving this recognition, having won other honors in our first few years as a company. But this honor from The Toy Association is perhaps the most prestigious,” said Dave Schultze, Founder and CEO of Gridopolis Games. “Game design has an incredible capacity to foster STEAM learning and promote dynamic play, and we’re thrilled to be recognized in this growing category.”
Gridopolis is an innovative 3D tabletop strategy game for 1 to 4 players, ages 8 and up. With familiar rules from checkers, chess, and tic-tac-toe, Gridopolis is fast and easy to learn, and setup takes just minutes. Players move, jump, and build their way to victory -- all in three dimensions!
The modularity of the Gridopolis system promotes key STEM / STEAM skills, from planning to creativity to abstract thinking to cooperation and analysis. Gridopolis challenges players to think outside the bounds of traditional, flat games and encourages free exploration through custom, step-by-step game design.
